Chaos Clock 2006
An ordinary wall clock mounted on a wall as if in a waiting room.
The quarts mechanism is removed, and the hands are instead driven by two Lorenzian Water-wheels, thus moving each hand in a chaotic motion. The piece plays with the notion of waiting, and of time as a linear quantity.
Edward Lorenz was an American mathematician and a pioneer of chaos theory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Norton_Lorenz
